About this project
Flyleaf Creative developed a number of custom applications for the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. The festival is made up of more than 100+ events across many venues with several connected themes in multiple genres. The priority was to develop tools that underscored those complex relationships. Flyleaf Creative strove to create a rich cross-sell environment that would expose their programs to a wider audience and encourage multiple ticket purchases per festival-goer.
DAISYTo help users browse the information effectively, Flyleaf Creative used Flash to develop a neural net–style search navigation called DAISY. Short for the Dynamic Arts & Ideas Search Yielder, DAISY taps into the metadata tags of each event to offer users a visual guide that connects Artists, Genres and Themes. DAISY spins out a new bloom, showing events related to a user’s word choice. Users who prefer to search in list-form could toggle between both formats. An A-Z Index was also provided.
Calendar A PDA-like calendar was developed to offer an expanded search beyond the typical Genre and/or Venue filters by showcasing the time relationships of individual events. Festival-goers could plan their day by seeing events in relation to each other’s start- and end-times. The big idea was to encourage attendees and day-trippers to purchase tickets for more than one event and spend the day in New Haven.
Featured Videos Flyleaf Creative encouraged the marketing team to use Featured Videos to keep users engaged with the site during dormant periods of the season. Through e-blasts, (templates that Flyleaf Creative generated) festival staff tantalized audiences with new video content. Encouraging people to post comments via their “Blogfest,” the festival slowly developed a year-round online community. To distinguish and add hierarchy to the many different types of video posted on the site, Flyleaf Creative designed a landing page. It allowed featured content prominence and gave access to the festival’s entire video library, so that users did not have to search multiple locations. Flyleaf Creative also was commissioned to design the intro and style guide for all featured video presentations.
Right Now field Flyleaf Creative was asked to develop a small multi-use area on the festival home page that could accommodate weather alerts, change of venue announcements and festival events happening Right Now. The festival events are pulled directly from the database’s calendar application and automatically populate that area daily. Weather alerts and other announcements are added by festival staff members through our custom-designed, user-friendly
Content Management System.
